***AN EAGLES EYE VIEW OF VICTORY CAMP*** 2 Mar 04 VC, Iraq Hot day! I slept in until 1030, sweet. Instead of going to chow I got a quick shower then headed to work for a nice MRE. There was a power outage I apparently was tagged to fix. You’d think the other people in the office lost use of their hands. I tried to train the new folks some more today, but it seems like there is no hope. This place is going to fall apart. The C6 Admin Lt told me my decoration package is due…in two freaking days. When the heck were they going to say something? On the way to dinner I was coined by CJTF-7’s CSM (Command SGM) for re-enlisting yesterday. I was glad because it helped me out with my next incident. I had rolled my sleeves up during the day because it’s hot and that just happens to be what I do in that instance. We, in the Air Force, think about heatstroke prevention. And last time I checked, that foot or so of cloth isn’t bullet proof. Anyway, Mike and I were on our way back from chow when I hear, “Hey Airman!” We turn around to see an Army E-7, who goes on to tell us we need to roll our sleeves down. When I asked him why, he said the CJTF-7 CSM-- the same one I had just been coined by--said for everyone to keep them down. Not one to let a special moment pass, I reacted. I pulled the CSM’s coin out of my pocket and said, “You mean this CSM? The one that gave me this coin no more than an hour ago? The CSM that saw me with my sleeves up--him?” All the while Mikes jaw was dropping to the floor. Too funny! This place is turning into ATF-7 (Army Task Force 7) instead of CJTF-7 (Combined Joint Task Force 7). I want to go home to be with my wife, son and fellow Air Force people. Spoke to a colonel along the way and convinced him to have his son join the Air Force.
