AN OPEN LETTER TO FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES, AND FORMER STUDENTS. My Career as a teacher: Yr. 1 was stupid hard. Yrs 2-5, I learned what to do and not to do. Yrs 6-20, I loved it so much, it didnt even feel like work. Yrs 21-25, I learned to dread the political crap and self-promoting style of my last boss. If you enjoy it so much, you cant be doing the best job.(I was told that) Because to you, if you werent happy, no one else should be either. So I left, and you got yours. In a way, I have you to thank for getting out. Yr 26: I didnt think I could enjoy a job as much as I enjoy what Im doing now. It doesnt feel like work, and my stress level has been reduced by 2/3. The people I work for are FANTASTIC. The Bluebonnet line is second to none in quality, as are the people. When my first check was not in on payday; the OWNERS MOTHER grabbed her purse and tried to give me money!!! Can you imagine my old boss even thinking about doing that??? Lol now the negatives: 1) I had to leave my wife and family in Slidell until the house sells. But thats temporary, itll get better soon enough. 2)The wonderful friends and colleagues that I left. But were STILL friends(I hope!) 3) The irreplaceable lifestyle and ambience that living in/around the NO area gives. 4) temporarily sidlined my music: but we will be starting up in Aug/Sept, and already have gigs booked he rest of the yr. 5)The one thing I cant replace: the true fulfillment of teaching kids. Ive said it a thousand times, I DID NOT leave teaching because of the kids. Thats one thing that nothing can replace. The Salmen kids that I taught/coached were the BEST group I ever had the privilege to teach or coach. And that time with them really was a privilege. Thanks for the time of my life!! ONWARD AND UPWARD!!! Oh yeah, one more thing. We WILL be back!!! (OR IN BELIZE!!!)
