AND DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD... romans 12.2 When you think about it you never really can be conformed to this world because the world has little conformity to it. Oh people can conform socially into groups, cliques, classes -- like lepers in a colony. But the fashion of the world, the barrage of information, the opinions of the trend setters, all of these things have about as much conformity as a wave of the sea breaking on the beach and just as quickly as it came disappears into the vast undertow of forgotten social norms and acceptance. How does one conform to something thats constantly surging and changing? Did you ever notice that nothing grows on the part of the beach where the waves break? Except for the bottom-clinging critters that feed there there is only dead stuff that washes up on shore. Why? It is an unstable environment. Attempting to conform to the wide open world produces instability. One day the market is up, the next day its spinning downward. One week eggs are a great source of protein, the next week they are filled with killer cholesterol. This year coffee is rich in heart healthy antioxidants, next year its causing cancer. How can you possibly conform that? Is the dog chasing its tail or is the tail chasing the dog? ...but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Unlike the fickle world around us the Word of God never changes. It is unrelentingly constant and stable. It has the quality of being able to draw you deeper into it, and to elevate you into a higher revelation of itself - but the Word itself never changes. That is quite amazing when think about it. The idea that you can be so radically altered by something which never changes goes against conventional and modern thinking. Stability cultivates growth. God set the man Adam in a garden -- an enclosed, protected, stable piece of earth. What is the lesson for us here? When we plant ourselves in the stable garden of the Word of God by the renewing, cultivating of our mind we grow and produce fruit in every season of our life.
