ANOTHER AMAZING JEWISH FEAT . . . In the movie, “Escape to Victory”, even the Nazis cheered when a player used the infamous bicycle kick. Israeli soccer player Barak Yitzhaki fulfilled the dream of every young player when he used this elusive move in a recent game in Israel. Yitzhaki explained, “I told Eran in our meeting, I have a feeling I’m going to use that kick and score a goal.” It wowed not only the Israeli sports world. So, what is so special about this move that excites everyone? There are those who prefer the slalom move across the field a la Maradona. Then there are those who like the Zidan move of “bombing it” from afar. The bicycle kick is the star of play station games and is featured in “how to” videos on YouTube. There is already a legacy of Israeli soccer players using this famous move. Eli Dricks used the bicycle kick in 1987. He relives this glorious moment, “You can’t forget it. You relive the move, the game. When you have a lot of self-confidence you dare to try moves like these.” In recent years, other Israeli players have joined the ranks including Eliran Attab from the Bnei Yehudah team and Eran Zehavi from the Hapoel Tel Aviv team. Luckily, Yitzhaki’s goal was filmed and immortalized. We’re sure this isn’t the last time he’ll try it.
