APD: parts of I49 to close Posted: Jan 23, 2014 4:00 PM CST Updated: Jan 23, 2014 4:00 PM CST ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Due to the approaching winter weather and the possibility of bridge icing, Interstate 49 through Alexandria will be closed starting at 6PM January 23rd, and remain closed until further notice. According to the Alexandria Police Department, I49 will be shut down for south bound traffic into Alexandria at the Airbase Road interchange, and for north bound traffic, at the U.S. 71 South interchange. The Broadway overpass will also be closed starting at 6PM this evening. USDOTD and the City of Alexandria Street Department will attempt to keep the Purple Heart and O.K. Allen bridges open.
