ARE THE DAYS OF WISDOM RETURNING? MY GENERATION WORSHIPPED MUSICAL GURUS. AFTER ALL, IT WAS THE AGE OF AQUARIUS: I remember the days when my old friend Mary Jane would come to visit me, my wife Julie and our friends. We would sit around analysing song lyrics--like Lucy in the sky with diamonds--while drinking Mountain Red and eating Mary Janes brownies. It was a time of gaining great wisdom. I can still remember Time Has Come Today, a never ending song by The Chambers Brothers. Wow, we were blessed with wisdom! What more did we need? We had the sagacious songs of the Beatles, Jimmy Hendricks, Janice Joplin, Otis Redding, Joan Baez, the Doors, Bobby Dylan--the list goes on and on. In just a few hours riveted on the lyrics of these sages, we literally solved all the worlds problems! Actually, one problem always remained. Virtually every time, we would run out of Mary Janes brownies or she and our other Friday night friends would simply go home--usually that was at about 3:00 AM. Then I would suddenly realize that I had to be at work at 6:00 AM. Saturday was a big day for a bread man. I delivered fresh bread and pastry to stores for you simple, ordinary folks. Now, I didnt need an alarm clock, because my little ones--John and Stacy, 5 and 4 years old--would wake me up at at 5:00 AM. Of course Julie, my erudite wife, was left awake and contemplating how wise we had been all night as she now listened to John and Stacy do what kids do that early in the morning. Where did all that wisdom go? In 1967 the U.S.National Debt was $340.4 Billion--today it is $17. 5 trillion! Unemployment was 3.8%, and the inflation rate was 3.46%. Family median income was $7,143--I was earning more than $12,000 and we owned a $22,000 home in Westminster, with a mortgage we could afford. Julie and I had bought our first two bedroom home for $12,500 just 6 years earlier. Our PITI was only $93.00 per month! I was 19 and she was 18. We did not know Mary Jane at that time. We were just simple folks. The Beatles said, All you need is love. WHY IS EVERYTHING IN SUCH A MESS TODAY? Were we being told the truth? Did Mary Jane and the song gurus lie to us? WHAT IS LOVE? WHAT IS TRUTH? Many years ago a simple man named John said, Whoever does not love does not know God, because GOD IS LOVE.-- 1 John 4:8. John had learned this from another man named Jesus, who claimed that God was his Father and that he was returning to Him. Then another simple man named Thomas, who like you and I, had been seeking the truth about life asked this question of Jesus, Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.--John 14:5-7 Please note the TRUTH: Love is not God, but GOD IS LOVE. God once said, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”--Mark 9:7 Please listen to the TRUTH: that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.--2 Corinthians 5:19 So, we finally discover true wisdom, but not from the gurus of this world. TRUTH IS FOUND ONLY IN JESUS CHRIST WHO DIED FOR US. THIS IS PROOF OF GODS LOVES FOR US. WE ARE FORGIVEN BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH. TURN TO HIS LOVE TODAY. TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION.
