AS PRESIDENT JONATHAN MAKES PEACE WITH EMIR OF KANO, MUHAMMADU - TopicsExpress

AS PRESIDENT JONATHAN MAKES PEACE WITH EMIR OF KANO, MUHAMMADU SANUSI II, I REST MY CASE Ordinarily I am not sentimental, neither am I biased against Mr. President. After all, I was one of the few young and growing journalists who stopped at nothing to get meaningful and eminent Nigerians to lend their credence to the campaign for installation of a member of the tiniest ethnic nationality in the country, that is Dr. Jonathan, as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Pa Ayo Adebanjo still alive, may Allah still keep him safe for us. He was one of them who spoke to me on this. It therefore hurt me when, recently, somebody looked deep into my eyes and said I hated the President of the Republic going by the posts that I was making on my Wall. What I detest is impunity, injustice and nonchalance to the security of Nigerian people. No sane Nigerian would see the way things have gone and at each point having to be linked with people who are supposed to be in charge of security of lives and property in this country and would be happy or complacent. Of particular instance where I was critical of the President, my small size and insignificant status not withstanding, was the way and manner he suspended and maltreated the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. He did not stop there but also, his administration was fingered in the cooking of criminal allegations, intended to be hung on the neck of the sacked CBN governor in order to nail him. But it failed. I got more beefing when the Presidency and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, moved out of their way to interfere in the appointment and announcement of the new Emir of Kano, armed police officers and men’s occupation of the Palace of the Emir of Kano, which hindered the entry into the Palace by the new Emir and deliberate withdrawal of about 70% security of the Governor of Kano, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, apparently in connection with Aso Rock’s anger over the fact that he merely carried out his constitutional responsibility with respect to the Emirate appointment. I beefed because, I, like many other ordinary Nigerians, had got enough of crises and discomfort to be faced with yet another. It therefore was not fashionable that one would embrace, with fullest of joy, such leadership’s attitude capable of turning us to another Iraq or Afghanistan. That was the reason for my being critical of Mr. President. I knew the pro-Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Facebook campaigns really cost me a lot: fear, threats by some unknown faceless elements, body languages that I was no longer loved at certain quarters. One of the consequences of my campaigns was the threat that chased me out of appearance on the Facebook until I was brought back by fans and friends who would never like me till eternity should I run away from what they described as a battle for change. But, today, I must say that what I wanted Mr. President to do, he has done. He and the new Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, had a breakfast together this evening at the Aso Rock Villa. What peace move could be more! Now, there is no question of by-force going to Kano to bow for the Emir. Mr. President will visit Kano as at when due and will be received with fanfare and celebration. And, like I was one of the six major journalists that covered his special visit to Sokoto when he visited to formally usher Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa into the PDP, in February of this year, I will love to also be on ground. I was at the Shehu Kangiwa’s Square that day at the instance of certain personality who wanted the President’s visit to be deservedly covered. That is the kind of leadership that I want of Dr. Goodluck Ebelle Jonathan because, anything short of attitude capable of engendering peace, harmony and tranquility will not only make us sad as Nigerians but set us back in count of years, as a nation state. Thank you, Your Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, for arranging this rare reconciliation! Thank you President Goodluck Jonathan for playing the host to the much desired reconciliation!! And, more admirably, thank you so much, Your Royal Highness Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, for, first and foremost, agreeing to discontinue your court case against the injustice done to you by the President and accepting to come along the Sultan to meet with President inside his Rock of Power in Abuja. We already see how you have refined and re-engineer the Emirate of Kano to be more productive and pro-active; how you have been giving sermon as Islamic scholar and discharging your duties as monarch in Kano. I saw the role you played during the new moonsighting heralding the ongoing Ramadan fast because I was with the Sultan and saw how you were cooperating in order to ensure that Nigerian Muslims were not misled. May Allah continue to help you and all our leaders. Once again, President Goodluck Jonathan, this peace you have made with the Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, is an indication of more good to come the way of Nigeria. And so, Your Excellency, I rest my case.
