MOSCO IMAFIDON OKOEDION (PRESIDENT) TOPIC: POWER FOR EXTRA – ORDINARY ACHIEVEMENT, DATE: 9TH JUNE, 2013 TEXT: ACTS 1:8 Power is the ability to do something or act in a particular way, especially as a faculty or quality. We know there are social, economical, political, spiritual and other forms of power but we are going to major on spiritual power – POWER FROM GOD THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT. Our Bible Text reads: ‘‘ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.... This promise is for people who have received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Personal Saviour. The Holy Ghost is the third person in the Holy Trinity. He is the spirit of truth. He is the comforter. He lives in the life of believer in the Lord Jesus. He is the third person in the God head. The Holy Spirit is a personality. He speaks (Acts 13:2). He could be grieved (Eph. 4:30). He has will (1Cor. 12:11). He empowers people who obey Christ. Luke 24:49 says. ‘‘And behold, I send the promise of my father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high’’. The preacher, the civil servant, the business man or woman, the student, the fisherman etc. can achieve a lot in his field if he is empowered by the Holy Spirit. Without him we cannot accomplish much. The Holy Spirit empowers us physically and morally also. At the altar of prayer he makes intercession for us even when we lack strength and don’t know what to pray about (Rom. 8:26). Do you have any physical or spiritual problem? The presence of the Holy Spirit in your life is the solution to your problems. He is our teacher and guide (John 16:13). People in Acts 2:37-39, after hearing and witnessing the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of people asked, ‘‘Brothers, what shall we do?’’ Peter replied, repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call. You need him – the Holy Spirit. He will save you from this corrupt generation (Acts 2:40). You need him to help you live above self, Satan, sin, and the world. Receive him today.
