AT first when I heard of Robin Williams death, I thought ho hum; - TopicsExpress

AT first when I heard of Robin Williams death, I thought ho hum; then, it started to sink in that we have lost someone special. While reminiscing his life through the media, one starts to realize just how much a part of our lives these special people become. That said, I am not a fan of every minute detail of his death has become public, but, in his memory, we should listen, learn, and, recognize our systems failure to men, woman, youth and children. We are failing them. The most prominent memory, I have, is the character he played in Good Will Hunting. So often I use the fictional psychologist as an example of what we need for those suffering from what killed Williams....what is killing many. Those suffering from a life they only endured, a life that was not your fault. Those who only need adjustment, someone to listen to them, a friend to offer the answers they never got.... not pills. We need men and woman who talk with patients for the long term, covered by healthcare, instead of handing out pills like candy. This is why we need talkers among our healthcare system. https://youtube/watch?v=GtkST5-ZFHw My favourite scene, and, I have known so many like this. https://youtube/watch?v=qM-gZintWDc I have realized that this movie was a message, and, now, maybe others will. Durham Region mental health is not serving those in need, and, this should be an election issue. Fix our mental health care. Do not fail by jailing. Fix it, and, now, before we lose one more person whether young or old, to the valley of pills.
