About 2 weeks ago I was walking into my local convenience store and a young man approached me. As he did I thought to myself if you want money I dont have any more. I was on my way home from grocery shopping. He said you seem like a reasonable person and I cant get anyone to listen to me. I said well at first I thought you were going to ask me for money and I have no more of that. I will listen to your story. He told me that he almost had enough money for a bus ticket and he wanted to go home. I gave him my last $1.50 in change and prayed with him and said this is a seed and I pray it multiplies for you. That was on my in the store and on my way out more people were listening and handing him money. Every year I am appalled to learn that we allow human beings to freeze to death in this city. What keeps them from going inside somewhere? Mental and physical illness. Chronic hopelessness. A very large % of them are veterans. I will be passing out quilts. They arent very big ones. But maybe it will help keep them alive long enough to find a moment of clarity and go inside somewhere. I believe that if we all planted just one seed of hope in a persons life that seems to have none that we could alleviate that much suffering a million times over. Im offering a challenge to you to make something warm and put it in the hands of someone experiencing the cold of hopelessness.
