About 3 years ago, Id get frustrated easily when what I expected to happen didnt happen in the classroom, so I was almost always angry. If my students were late for class, Id countdown loudly so theyd run. In my 2nd year, I was infamous for my penampar. You mess around, youd get it from me. Boys knew that if they got out of toilet after smoking, theyd have to blow and if it smelled like ciggies, theyd readily accept my slap. Then last year, I learned the wisest thing to do is to be silent. Now, if I am angry, Ill speak with a few tone lower. If my students are late, Ill put up my hands and just countdown with my fingers. If the boys smoke, Ill just wait outside the classroom or call their names lovingly. I enjoy looking at my students scrambling off their feet. Oh the smell and sight of fear. But they also know that if they are good, Ill treat them nice too. Pengetua once asked a boy who was pretending to argue with me, Awak tak takut Tcr Mar tu? Dia garang! And the boy said, Tcr garang, tapi dia baik. Im not sorry for the long post. To aspiring young teachers out there, may we all grow mature and find our feat and continue to strive for our students success in study and life.
