About The Sunshine Project, Inc. is a non-profit located in South Florida that helps children and families in need. Mission To help children in need and crisis. General Information History The Sunshine Project Inc. is an outgrowth of The Comfort Bag Project which was started in 2001 to bring cheer to children hospitalized at The Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Each bag contains a fleece blanket hand made by area students, craft supplies, and a stuffed animal. To date over 2,000 bags have been donated. To identify and implement new projects, a 501(c)(3) was formed and a board was recruited. The organization was names Sunshine Project, Inc. in memory of Rick Sunshine who passed away on Oct. 5, 1998 from cancer. All donations made to The Sunshine Project, Inc. are used for projects. There are no executive salaries, office overhead, or fundraising costs. Board members are volunteers. Fundraisers are underwritten by board members and area businesses. 100% of donations and funds raised go to those in need.
