Absolutely love this show, but not for its seeming grotesqueness (and a real deaf actor is not in the slightest grotesque, - damn you if you think it) but for the very normality (or should I say, the beauty of normality) of its two leads, the exquisitely real portrayals of decent well-meaning individuals, by Allison Tolman and Colin Hanks. And the remarkable layers of the opposite that Billy Bob Thornton can bring out of his complex self is something to behold. Martin Freeman ought to win an Emmy for his tragicomic feats, but the Coen Brothers deserve the most effusive phrase of all for setting a tone that has become a genre unto itself.
