According to Texas Democratic Party rules, Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa appoints the Chairman’s Ad Hoc Platform Advisory Committee before the State Democratic Convention. This group of volunteers will work together to draft the 2014 Texas Platform for presentation to the Permanent Platform Committee. The Chair has invited over three dozen participants representing Democratic constituencies and allied groups so that all voices have input at the beginning of this process. The Chairman has appointed me, representing District 20 and Stonewall Democrats and I have accepted to represent my District and community on the Platform Committee. It is an honor to present my delegations. Platform: This is an ad hoc working group tasked with creating a rough draft of the Party Platform. Members are chosen for expertise on a policy area and other appropriate demographics. There will a number of long working sessions in Austin over several weeks. Please keep that in mind when putting forth your willingness to serve or when submitting The Hon. Garnet Coleman has been appointed to chair this work group. Ed Martin of the Texas State Teacher’s Association will assist in leading this effort. Both Garnet and Ed have served in this role in past convention years and will do an outstanding job. Bill Brannon and Glen Maxey from the Texas Democratic Party will be available to help with logistics.
