Admin #Rouf Shupian observes shutdown A shutdown was observed in south Kashmir’s Shupian district Monday to press for the demand of punishment to the killers of five youth and the relocation of CRPF camp from the Gagran area of the town. Five people were killed by the troopers of 14 Bn of CRPF outside their camp at Gagran on 7th and 11th of September this year. Government later announced a judicial probe into the incident headed by retired High Court judge M L Koul. A complete shutdown was observed with most schools, shops and other business establishments remaining closed. A thin vehicular movement was witnessed in the town. During evening hours, youth gathered near Jamait-e-Ahlihadith Mosque and started shouting pro-freedom slogans, demanding removal of CRPF camp and release of detained Hurriyat Conference leader Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, who was arrested yesterday in Srinagar allegedly on charges of leading protests in the southern district. Some locals from the area said that although CRPF have started the relocation process and Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police have started to occupy the place. Giving an assurance that the CRPF camp will be relocated till October 9, district administration appealed the people of the town to maintain calm. Deputy Commissioner, Shupian, Bashir Ahmad Bhat said that the cabinet order shall be followed in letter and spirit and the camp will be relocated from the area. “We have already relocated the major portion of the CRPF from the camp and remaining will be shifted by 9th of this month,” said the DC. He further stated that the district administration is planning to establish the office of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) at Gagran camp.
