After a little research - I have come to understand this better. Here is the truth. Conversion therapy is wrong. It isnt even therapy - it is a form of brainwashing. It is a shameful modern-day witch hunt. There is no way it will harm kids. Conversion Therapy is a 1950s view of the way we handle people who are different than us. If a kid thinks he/she is gay or knows he/she is gay - the counseling should not be to fix him/her. The counseling should be to help them understand who they are and flourish AS THEY ARE. Also to help this person adjust to how some of the small minds of the world will react to them. This will never impinge on religious freedom. That is just the most ridiculous and uneducated response surrounding this argument. If a man or a woman is gay - and chooses to live that way - how does that impact your religious freedom. You can go to church without even knowing the man or woman next to you is gay. The point is - God doesnt hate gay people. He just doesnt. Pretty much the only people who hate gay people are the people who claim to do it in Gods name. There are so many ways that we as a society can help a young person come to grips with anything they encounter in their youth. Trying to force them to be something that is not natural to them is sinful. I urge you to support politicians who are trying to ban conversion therapy. Sorry, Kevin R Doerksen, but conversion therapy is flat out wrong.
