US sending military equipment to Iraq ahead of possible spring offensive 27-12-2014: The US military is preparing for a spring-time offensive against Islamic State militants in Iraq and has been slowly stockpiling massive amount of gear and material since June in a Kuwaiti depot next to the busy Shuaiba port. The equipment, coming from Afghanistan where US troops finally pulled-out of after 13 years, includes an estimated 3,100 vehicles, a majority being MRAPs – the mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles reported US News. “From June to December, we’ve worked a lot on moving items into Kuwait,” said Air Force Maj. Gen. Rowayne “Wayne” Schatz. “The Army is holding the gear there, and it has room to hold it, as the mission fleshes out.”
