After an unsuccessful attempt to grow cucumbers last year, and a bad attempt at the start of this growing season, my cucumber plants seem to be hanging on. I started them from seed outside, in the soil they were eventually going to be transplanted into. I started them in the shade and transplanted them after they were about 4 inches tall. And now they range from 10" to 16" tall. I know it is a little late in the season, but hey, since Las Vegas has such a long growing season we just might be enjoying some fresh, home grown cucumbers this year.
