After graduating from Lyndon State College in 1991 with a B.A. in Social Science, (History and Economics) I spent the next 7 years working at a residential private high school with students who had learning differences, including ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, non verbal learning disabilities and Aspergers. It was the most rewarding work experience of my life. The staff and faculty had enormous success in helping these students learn to read, write and do mathematics. I have been a para-educator, substitute teacher, tutor and school bus driver at two different elementary public schools in Vermont. I have served on two different school boards. I have two girls in the local public elementary school. I am a firm believer in locally controlled public schools but I also strongly support school choice and homeschooling. One size does not fit all. The best interests of a student are served by a strong relationship between the teacher, the student and the parent.
