After taking credit for Republican efforts toward equality and gaining support from black voters, LBJ needed to devise a plan to undermine the black community while retaining the new voter base. LBJs Great Society plan, along with Left-wing Progressive ideologues successfully did just that. Touting his underlying intentions for the Great Society programs, LBJ confided with two like-minded governors on Air Force One, stating- Ill have those n*ggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years. With expanded welfare programs, LBJ ensured the destruction of the Black family unit and systematically dismantled any hard fought progress made by early civil rights leaders such as Frederick Douglass. Despite popular propaganda, studies have shown that the number of black single-parent families sharply increased from 19% at the beginning of World War II, reaching a high of 28% in the early 1960s, thanks to the War on Poverty programs. Twenty years after LBJs Great Society programs took full effect, the percentage of single-parent black families grew to 65%.
