Akira Yamaoka, who composed the soundtracks for the Silent Hill - TopicsExpress

Akira Yamaoka, who composed the soundtracks for the Silent Hill video game series, was the exact reason I started making music in November of 2004. I was in my last year of high school, a victory lap of sorts where I only took art, philosophy, and a co-op placement. I remember having a conversation with my mom then, explaining how the terrible sounds coming from my computer speakers in underdeveloped, repeating loops were my attempts to sound like this Japanese composer whose music I was in awe of. Crazily, its a decade later, now. This upcoming January will be three years since I messaged Yamaoka through Facebook, and he told me “I’m so happy checking your page. It has become my huge favorite!”. When I look now on Spotify, or the iTunes Store, the top “Recommended Artists” for my work as Atra Aeterna are Akira Yamaoka and Clint Mansell (another composer I look up to greatly). I’m making note of this, because every once in a while, glimmers of achievement shine through the self-deprecating, overly critical haze that comes with trying to “create stuff”. Today is one of the rare nights I feel pride for sticking with my music over the years, and as much as I’ve put into it, it wouldn’t exist without the wonderful support and feedback of family, and friends (both local and long-distance-digital), that I’ve encountered over these past 10 years. So if you’re one of those people who have leant an ear over those years… Cheers. (This collection of 21 tracks from that decade is still free!)
