All, As neighbors, I dont have to tell you about the Bainbridge Apartments. We all know the many issues associated with those buildings. We have the opportunity to finally do something--folks, I am hopeful we have found our solution. However, this is the moment where we all need to stand up and make our voices heard, otherwise, the responsibility falls on us for doing nothing when we could have made a difference. Eagle Points layers and lobbyists are already making the rounds to oppose us. As a neighbor, I am asking for your help. If at all possible, please come to City Hall, 26th Floor at 10 am on Tuesday, February 4th for the City Plan Commission Meeting. Speakers are being prepared to address issues including, but not limited to, HUD policy, social policy, crime, health and well being of the tenants, accusations of racism/nimby, etc. All you have to do is stand when called upon by those speakers to impress upon the CPC the support from the community. You could also offer testimony if you choose If you cant make it, please take the time to write a letter to Claude Page and email it to [email protected]. I have included a sample letter at the bottom of this email for your convenience. Now, to explain briefly what is happening. The community has worked with the City to develop tools to gain leverage over the owners to bring them to the table with HUD and the City and deal with the socially, morally, and ethically unjust contracts that created the Eagle Point project over community protest and against HUD fair housing policy. To do this, we need to create that leverage by asking the City Plan Commission (and the City Council after that) to adopt an amended Blight Study associated with Armour to include a finding of social blight associated with these properties. The grounds establishing social blight are a study recently done by a consultant that found: Inline image 1 Please, everyone, plan to attend this meeting and bring neighbors. If you cannot attend, please write a letter. And pass this along to others. Claude F. Page Senior Planner City Planning and Development Department City of Kansas City, Mo.
