All Bay Area Firefighter Local Unions are invited and encouraged to join with Local 230 for a precinct walk supporting Dave Cortese for Mayor of San Jose. Saturday, October 4, 2014 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. San Jose Firefighters Local 230 425 East Santa Clara Street, Suite 300 San Jose, CA 95113 Local 230 will provide coffee and donuts in the morning and lunch after the precinct walk. San Jose mayor Chuck Reed is termed out of office this year. After eight years of relentless attacks on public safety pensions and staffing, which rippled out from San Jose and spread across the state, Reeds campaign against public sector workers has lost some momentum. His attempt to place an initiative on the 2014 state ballot eliminating vested rights for California workers was derailed for the time being. Measure B, his illegal attack on San Jose pensions, is stuck in appeals court after a judge ruled the measure violated the state constitution. This pension attack is also being challenged through P.E.R.B. In San Jose, response times for police and fire are unacceptably long thanks to Reeds cuts and staffing shortages as San Jose workers look for jobs elsewhere. Despite all this, Reeds legacy in San Jose may continue if Sam Liccardo is elected mayor on November 4th. Liccardo promises to continue Reeds attacks on pensions and public safety. To put an end to the Chuck Reed era, San Jose Local 230 is supporting Dave Cortese for mayor of San Jose. Please read Local 230 Treasurer Patrick Chungs email for more information on Dave Cortese, including how to donate to his campaign. Local 230 is organizing precinct walks from their union office every Monday and Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from now until election day. Bay Area firefighters who live in the San Jose area are encouraged to join these walks and support the campaign. At the September 10th meeting, the Bay Area Firefighter Network decided to adopt Saturday, October 4th as a day of firefighter solidarity with Local 230 and the Cortese campaign. Every Local firefighter union in the Bay Area is urged to send members to join the precinct walk and show support for our brothers and sisters in San Jose. San Jose firefighters have been in the front lines of the fight to protect our retirement, staffing and working conditions, and they need our support now more than ever.
