Ally may have seen or heard things vital to probe on Gers ally INTERVIEW ... Police talk to Ally EXCLUSIVE By GORDON TAIT and CHRIS MUSSON Published: 4 hrs ago COPS grilled Ally McCoist over Craig Whyte’s Ibrox takeover because the Rangers boss may have come across evidence crucial to the fraud probe. Officers reckon McCoist, an ever-present figure during the turmoil that has gripped the Glasgow club, could unwittingly have seen or heard vital information. The 51-year-old gaffer attended Govan police station — just minutes from Gers’ stadium — to give a statement on the deal at the request of the economic crime unit. A source said: “Ally McCoist was spoken to as part of the ongoing inquiry. “Cops wanted to speak to him because he was assistant manager when Whyte took over and has been manager ever since. “He may have witnessed or heard things pertinent to the inquiry, so he was asked to attend the police station by appointment. “His statements will be added to the other inquiries as police build a case.” IBROX STADIUM G.V.s SAGA ... Ibrox events go on and on Police have been probing Whyte’s takeover of debt-laden Rangers since Crown prosecutors ordered a full investigation last June. They are now also examining the period AFTER Gers went into administration, during the reign of ex-chief Charles Green. Other Ibrox bigwigs have been grilled by specialist cops on what they knew about Whyte’s deal with ex-owner Sir David Murray. They include another former chief exec, Martin Bain, ex-financial controller Ken Olverman, PR consultant Jack Irvine and head of football admin Andrew Dickson. Officers have also flown to the US where they interviewed former chairman Alastair Johnston for their inquiry into club finances. He passed information to cops shortly after Whyte seized control of stricken Gers in May 2011 — then showed Johnston the door. Ibrox administrators Duff and Phelps also contacted police that year after taking a first look at the club’s accounts. Latest twists and turns in the investigation include claims this week that Green’s signature might have been forged on crucial takeover documents. And earlier this year police searched Whyte’s country pile Castle Grant, near Grantown-on-Spey, Moray. Police Scotland would last night neither confirm or deny McCoist or other bosses at the club have been quizzed. A spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are continuing into the acquisition and management of Rangers Football Club.”
