Aloha Big Island friends, Rep. Joy San Buenaventura represents the Puna area. She has submitted a bill regarding requiring the removal of the home insurance moratorium by HPIA on existing dwellings and requiring renewals. This will assist in stabilizing property values in lower Puna. In order to pass..... the majority of the Consumer Protection/Insurance committees and the majority of the senate and the house must be in favor of it. The Insurance Council is already lobbying all representatives to oppose her bills. She also suggests lobbying the Governor to support these and similar bills and request that he retain Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito who has done a great job in asking the existing insurance companies to renew Puna home insurance policies. When Rep. Joy San Buenaventuras bills come up for a hearing... she only has only a 48 hour window to submit testimony in support of it. So if you are in agreement....please submit your testimony in support of Rep. Joy San Buenaventuras bills, to her now, so she has it in hand when needed. Also, please share this information with anyone else who may be interested in the issue of Puna property owners (and prospective buyers of properties) having continued insurance coverage. This should do much to stabilize property values in lower Puna ......which have been experiencing volatility due to the June 27th lava flow.
