Although the Washington Post is offering a 2/3 discount on its subscription price, I am still ready to toss this one-time jewel into the recycling bin for good because of its breathtaking, gag-inducing butchery of the English language, either by design or by refusing to hire copy editors. Two days ago, it referred to the synagogue cabinet where the holy scrolls are kept as an “arc.” The same article repeatedly misspelled the name of one of D.C.’s more prominent sports figures, philanthropists and real estate developers. Today, sports columnist John Feinstein wrote: “Anyone who thinks they are the smartest person in the room … will often walk out of the room having made a fool of himself.” Start walking, Mr. Feinstein.
