Although the word of God is, in and of itself, infallible; (that is it is incapable of error and can be trusted) that same inerrant word is often mishandled, misquoted and misapplied. It looses its original strength to the degree that a careless pastor can dilute the true intent, meaning or interpretation and teach others to do the same. Repetition aids in the developing error and over time, if left unchecked, is easily accepted as absolute truth without further inspection. New converts can be swallowed up in the flood of views and opinions and two thousand years of unwise manhandling has made key elements of understanding of no affect for many an unsuspecting disciple. Many call the Bible infallible yet when they successfully finish manipulating the context of one topic they naturally redirect our attention, using a new verse to reinforce their next invalid assumption. I bring this up to ask a question; where in scripture does it say that in dead letter form, without the Spirit, that the Bible is open to any theological prerogative? By staking a claim on infallible authority; adaptation specific verses that are vague or mysterious, can easily be copy/pasted together to prove an old grey area doctrine or a new revelation. Everyone who claims to be authorized to teach anything from the scripture these days will confidently die on that hill while proclaiming... I “only believe and teach” what the Bible says. Five people with five different views have all made that statement both in theory and application and yet deny others that same testimony. The areas that enjoy the most error it seems, concerns twisting an imagined patriotic responsibility, redefining moral tolerance and entertaining an overabundance of inadequate eschatological proclamations. I will gladly believe that the word of God is inerrant; it’s just that I can’t say the same for those who claim to be in charge of identifying just what that means.
