Always looking to the edges!!! Thank you for your blessings my Lord. Daily Word Thursday, November 6 Always Look to the Edges What woman having ten coins and losing one would not light a lamp and sweep the house, searching carefully until she finds it? Luke 15:8 In todays gospel reading, the Pharisees complain about Jesus hanging out with sinners. He says sinners need his help, the righteous dont, and tells the parable of the lost coin. In Hebrew culture, ten was whole, so losing one broke that wholeness. In his recent book, Sacred Fire, Fr. Ronald Rolheiser says of this parable that Jesus challenges us not to be content with a comfortable little spiritual circle. We should look always to the edges to see who will no longer sit at a table with us, always seeking that lost wholeness, the missing sheep or coin. I love my comfortable spiritual circle; I dont want to disrupt it! Why would I go out of my way to bring in anyone whos not a comfortable fit?
