American Postal Workers President Dimondson, Commenting on the action of the Postmaster General to give good paying Union jobs to Staples. For a complete discussion on this subject, the attitude of President Obama, who was elected twice with Postal unions’ support, needs to be considered. President Obama is currently addressing the nation on the subject of the minimum wage, middle class jobs and equal pay for women. President Obama, however, is curiously (suspiciously?) silent on the privatization threats to the Postal Service, which has 400,000 good paying jobs and equal pay for women, in addition to employing minorities and veterans. “The President has the power to appoint members of the Postal Board of Governors. There are five vacancies on the nine-member board. He has not successfully placed a single appointee on it during his entire tenure in office. The four existing members were all appointed by George W. Bush.” New Republic (Feb. 10, 2014) President Obama appointed Vicky Kennedy (Ted Kennedy’s widow) to the Board of Governors on Feb. 12, 2014; if the President appointed four more members sympathetic to the preservation of the USPS, Postmaster General Donahue could be replaced, without drama, by a PMG who could give the Postal Service a fighting chance to succeed.
