Americans declared, “BANNED FOR LIFE Donald Sterling!” Now Tar Baby has company! In 2011 Congressman Doug Lamborn said, “Being associated with President Obama would be similar to touching a tar baby.” In 1992 Marge Schott the Cincinnati Reds owner called her black players million dollar niggers. Now in 2014 Donald Sterling says he gives his black players food and does not want his girlfriend to bring black people to basketball games. Enough with the Willie Lynches of the world and Warden Tuthill with his “Aunt Jemima and farming out his lieutenants” racist epithets. I want to talk about the white people who have contributed to the freedom and enhancement of life for black people. Such as Congressman Thaddeus Stevens from Pennsylvania who fought against slavery so tenaciously that Congressman William Barksdale from Mississippi pulled a knife on him. I want to talk about Senator Charles Sumner from Massachusetts who was nearly beat to death on the senate floor by South Carolina Congressman Preston Brooks after Sumner delivered an anti-slavery speech. Everybody should know about John brown who led a raid on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry VA. He was trying to acquire arms to raise an army to wage war against the United States to end slavery. Ultimately this white man was hung for defending the freedom of black people. His fight against the institution of slavery led to the Civil War, which ended slavery. I would like to talk about white people like OFC Top who gave me a hug and a kiss every time she saw me in the jail and told me how much she appreciated me for having her back. I want to talk about good white people like the Clements brothers, the Craddocks, the Peter Browns, the Greens, the Getners, the Harmons, the Kammers, the Schlichtings, the Volkmans and the Kellys of the world who showed nothing but respect to black officers as well as black inmates. A shout out to my man Wagner who had my back when it was time to get physical on them sections. I used to love to hear OFC Miller aka Cook yell from post 46, “Go get ‘em Johnson” when I ran to a code. I want to talk about good white people like OFC Heard who could find contraband anywhere in the jail except for the cigarettes that were in his shirt pocket. They were for his own habit, not inmates’… I like to talk about the much needed old school advice given to me by OFC M. Dunlap that helped me do my bit... I definitely want to talk about white people like the librarian Mr. Blumberg who purchased almost a hundred of my novels for the jail’s library so that inmates could read them. I always talk about perhaps my all-time favorite white person, Dr. Burman, who taught me the art of investing money and how it’s better to be smart than right sometimes. If I left any wonderful white people out please forgive me I’m not being racist I just forgot. These are the type of white people that should be recognized not what’s his name! There will always be racism in America because that’s how it was established in the beginning. However, and there’s always an however. As long as racial groups in America empower themselves through education, economic strength, unity and a willingness to work with the majority population (white people) racism may not be eradicated but it can be put in check.
