An Open Letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Let me begin by - TopicsExpress

An Open Letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Let me begin by congratulating you on your maiden speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort. It seemed ‘from the heart’. I applaud your effort of bringing to the forefront the most basic issues of sanitation and female security. It was heartening to see an important leader address the issue of ‘how we bring up our boys’ as the root cause of the evil of rape, of women and the country. I have been a vociferous critic of you and what you stand for (to the great concern of my well-wishers, I must add). I reserve my right to continue being so, unless you can allay the many doubts and fears we have. You have, Sir, given this country hope. Can you live up to them? Do you have what it takes to fight the demons that beset this great nation? Or are these just words? Again. I belong to this generation that has seen raised hopes, some fulfilled, most dashed. I have, like a million others, been disabused of the notion of ‘leaders’ and ‘promises’. And though, it has been an uphill task, I have tried to not become an absolute cynic regarding the greatness of our nation and its potential. You have talked of a 10 year hiatus to conflicts and riots. I approve. But I beg to ask you if you have what it takes to ensure this? After all, charity begins at home and ‘one must be the change one wants to see’. Can you reign in the rogue elements within your ‘friends and family’? How do you propose to stop them from raising the bogey of ‘Hindu Rashtra’ and ‘females dressing decently’? Can you even begin to quell fears of totalitarianism? Can you ensure that history isnt distorted in our text books? A lot needs to change Sir, in this country, its people and in you (the tribe of ‘netas’). I wonder if the nation should hold its breath. A very concerned citizen
