An article by Adithya Suresh : Kindly spend 10 mins We dont sacrifice for our passion but instead we sacrifice our passion I love my passion; yet I like my profession, I have heard these words from many; why go so far? I myself utter these words to anyone who ask me Why choose engineering when you can do something that others cant?. The words I love my passion; yet I like my profession is somewhat similar to that of Shakespeares words in Julius Caesar Yet Brutus says he was ambitious and Brutus is an honorable man. We all knew Brutuss character is contradictory to the adjective Honorable and so are our words. We dont sacrifice for the sake of our passion but instead we sacrifice our passion itself. These words are very true. We start to sacrifice right from the age of ten. When we are ten, we sacrifice our passion for chocolates and sweets. Our mom says, Study well and Ill buy you one of those chocolates. Yes ! we fall prey to this. Ten is the right age to lay the foundation for our passion to achieve success but instead we sacrifice our passion for subtle pleasures. Somehow, we build our desires and start to dream about passion. At the age of fifteen, we sacrifice passion for studies. When we near our class 10 board exams, some of our relatives who have no influence on our lives come to our house and starts giving free advice. They start by saying just study for the next three years and then you can do whatever you want. Im still search for those great men who uttered this great words to me. I have already crossed those Three years of my life three times and yet I still study nevertheless. I know that its not just me. Im sure that amongst all of those reading this, many have experienced the same in their very own life because at the end of the day, all of us are Indians. We cross that Three years somehow and also manage to score some good grades in our high school and also our higher secondary. Right after our higher secondary results, our fathers find a seat next to us, place their arms on our shoulder and ask the million dollar question Whats next?. Though there are thousands and thousands of answers to this question, we Indians have only three answers for this question. We have to choose between Engineering, Medical and Commerce. That too we cant choose amongst the three options because the selection largely depends on which group that we chose in our earlier higher secondary. Again, we sacrifice passion for the sake of our degree. We hope at least after these four or five years down the lane, we can finally feed our passion. This is a miscalculation again. After our degree, our family situations demand us to grab a job before we finish our education. We do so as we feel proud and responsible. Once again, we sacrifice our passion for simple pride. Thats it ! we dont find time to achieve our passion once we sign up for a company. We get married in a few years as we once again start the vicious circle in sacrificing. We retire from our job and then we dont have energy to feed our passion. :( We start sacrificing right from the age of six to sixty. I am neither against engineering nor against medical courses and neither am I blaming our parents, yes! All they want us to have is a secure future and even though we have a secure future at the end of the day it is never a happy future. If our passion is to be an engineer or doctor, we can definitely choose one of those since we can make significant contributions to our profession. In India, we really rate a fish with its flying ability and a bird by its swimming ability. At least let us change the future of India. :)
