An excerpt from fun university life for all my friends back - TopicsExpress

An excerpt from fun university life for all my friends back home: In this essay, I will argue in (I) that morality is indeed a “convenient term for socially approved habits”, taking a Wittgensteinian approach to defining morality. However, I will in (II) challenge the argument that such a definition of morality leads to meta-ethical moral relativism (MMR), instead positing that moral nihilism is a more valid stance to adopt. After dealing with potential objections to such a meta-ethical position, I will attempt to show in (III) that such moral nihilism consequently leads to emotivism, outlining a theory of emotivist moral nihilism (EMN) and addressing counterarguments to such a stance. Finally, I will conclude in (IV) with a brief discussion of the usefulness of EMN: stressing that dispelling the ‘illusions’ of moral properties and facts need not necessitate the removal of ‘beauty’ from virtuous action. I ENJOY THIS UNASHAMEDLY.
