[email protected] Dear Judge Roldan: This memorandum is an exercise of my right of free speech and a petition for redress. Your honor, I have read and viewed a number of media reports suggesting that a potential juror who was breastfeeding has been cited in your court for contempt, specifically, Ms. Laura Trickle. Yes, jury duty is a civic obligation - one any number of people step up to and do daily in aid of the courts jurisdiction. So, of course, the media may have their own point of view in addition to Ms. Trickles. As with the writs of mandamus, prohibition, and other extraordinary writs, an order to show cause why one should or shouldnt be held in contempt suggests the subject of the writ has acted against the court. Even if Ms. Trickle didnt want to be on a jury, maternal instincts to care for her children clearly and strongly suggest Ms. Trickle wasnt acting against the court, but rather for her family...and, any benefit of the doubt should inure to Ms. Trickle. Given the restraint suggested in the 16th Circuits Principals of Civility displayed on the courts website, may I please ask the honorable court to please dismiss whatever contempt/show cause proceedings as may be pending against Ms. Trickle. Even if theres reason to doubt Ms. Trickles story, and in giving the court all benefit of the doubt that there may be, caution is the better part of valor and a dismissal would not harm the court. This I request in the name of all concerned citizens whom the courts are meant to serve. Pending that, I wish you all very well. With much respect, I am...
