An overflowing fountain.. Is God the God of Jews only/ Is he not the God of Gentiles also? How often we limit Gods grace to those like ourselves and subconsciously set aside those we think unworthy! The apostle Paul understood that grace abounded in Jesus Christ and this grace was not only for the Jews, but for all people. Paul understood Gods unconditional love for him, and that made it impossible for him to declare it was restricted to his own people. Because of that, Paul was called the apostle to the Gentiles. Today the church remembers Gregory the Great. Like Paul, Gregory saw beyond his own borders. He founded monasteries, reformed the church of his day, and promoted the spread of the gospel as far as England. He understood grace as an overflowing fountain. When I invited a pastor from another tradition to lunch, he answered, Im sorry, we dont share fellowship with those of other denominations. Many operate from this defensive position. Paul reminds us that Gods grace shines on all. We have received grace freely; we are to give it freely. Its sad when we extend Gods love drip by drip, rather than as an overflowing fountain. Lord Jesus, give us open minds and hearts toward those different from ourselves. Amen!
