And so it starts -- Insurance companies running your medical care! - TopicsExpress

And so it starts -- Insurance companies running your medical care! I have been on the same antirejection medication for 10 years and have gotten my RX filled at the same pharmacy since the day I left the hospital. This stuff costs almost $200 a month. I just received a mail order 90-day supply of it unsolicited and very unappreciated! With it came a bill for $200 -- my supposed copay. I dont have a copay for this medication because I have a manufacturer coupon card. Also, if I did have a copay it would only be $180; whats with the extra $20 -- am I buying someone lunch? The info they send with the RX is that they will call before they refill it every time to be sure you still want to get your medication through the mail. HA. So, I called my pharmacy and asked them if they knew about this and they didnt. I called the insurance for my meds and they promptly stated it was my and my doctors office fault and that I needed to tell my doc that I didnt want to receive mail order meds. I explained I had never had mail order and didnt want them and that they werent getting $200 out of me for something I didnt order. We went around and around and he finally talked to someone there who told him that as a courtesy to send me a self-addressed envelope for me to send it back. Now, this isnt my first trip to the rodeo. I know they cant restock it and are going to have to eat the cost (over $700). He started to say that they would only do this one time because of that very reason and I explained to him that I knew that and that he needed to be sure to put it in THEIR system that I did not want mail order RXs. He then went on to blame my doctors office some more. It was by far one of the the WORST customer service experiences I have ever had. They also dont seem to realize that if I reject they could have paid for however much is left of that medication!! IDIOTS! I called everyone involved including my transplant nurse. I got told someone else filled out a form that had been sent to the office for that when she was not in. This has happened to her in the past and to the woman I spoke with at my pharmacy!! The one at the pharmacy was for a 90-day supply of muscle relaxants for her 14YO who broke her arm! Just arrived in the mail out of the blue. 90 days-- breaks generally heal in six weeks. Its obvious these folks cant do math at all! When I spoke to my medical insurance, the woman was very nice and let me know that they really had nothing to do with that end of medical but that she would put a note in the computer about what happened to cover all my bases and did I want to file a complaint against the medication insurance? Well, YES I DID! Im still deciding whether or not to file a complaint with the Pharmacy Board of Texas. So, every doctor I see I am going to have to tell them exactly what to do with any RX and to NOT do mail order. You might remember this the next time you go to your doc! And I cant help but think that this is just the beginning!
