And the awards process begins. Here are the fundamentals for the Peabody Awards with a deadline only a month away. Since 1940 the Peabody Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in electronic media, making it the oldest honor for radio and television. The competition is now also open to entries produced for alternative means of electronic distribution, including podcasts, websites, internet videos (on YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, Netflix, or other internet streaming platforms), video games, and educational media. The Peabody Award, considered the most selective and prestigious honor for electronic media programming, is unique in that there are no categories for entries or nominations. The categories required in the submission form are for administrative purposes only. The submitted entries are judged by an 18-member board that includes television critics, industry practitioners, scholars and experts in culture and fine arts. All program entries must be for programs aired or originally released during the 2014 calendar year (January 1 - December 31, 2014). Any person or organization wishing to direct the attention of the Peabody Board to a meritorious program, series, or individual/organization may submit entries. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 15, 2015, 5:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
