And the concept of a ‘good’ Dalek. What is that? A Dalek with an absence of the impetus to slaughter every living thing it sees is not inherently good. It’s just neutered. Will this Dalek help an elderly person across the street, or donate to charity, or rescue a bag of puppies from a river at the risk of its own life? Good is a layered concept, and can’t be defined by simply taking away a creature’s prime directive. Making something terrible less terrible doesn’t automatically make it good, it just makes it less awful.
