“And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan - TopicsExpress

“And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacobs heart fainted, for he believed them not. And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived: And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die.” (Gen. 45:25-28) We need to see three points clearly in this passage. (1.) Unbelief ALWAYS leads to a fainting heart. Notice here that Jacob was told some of the greatest news you would have thought he could have heard but still unbelief in the words he heard made his heart faint. (2.) What are you going to choose to believe? Notice that in verse 27, Jacob only believed the words being said AFTER HE SAW the wagons coming for him (a sign). Do you and I have to wait for a sign to believe or do we simply trust His word? (3.) Life is more important than possessions and positions. Notice in verse 28 that once Jacob believed that Joseph was still living, he did not care if Joseph was the governor over all the land of Egypt or if he were a drunk lying in his own vomit. All that was important to him was that Joseph was alive and he wanted to see him. We must remember to (1.) BELIEVE His words and (2.) Place more value on the quality of life rather than the quantity of life. Courage is not simply one of the Virtues... Its the form of every Virtue thats been put to the test!
