Anime Review: The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) Studio: Madhouse Episodes: 26 Genre: Supernatural / action / Sci-Fi ************************************************************ In a nutshell: ***************** A powerful military magician attends a magic high-school with his younger sister for some reason and pose to be regular students. My Say: ***************** If the nutshell description made that sound terrible, then theres a lot of validity to your concern. The story was erm, shall we say...boring; however the magical elements provide you with the necessary distractions to get through the series. You find yourself relying on the pretty colours to take your brain from a lack of a coherent plot, which is not a good thing in this instance. Fair enough if it was entertaining then all could be forgiven however this series really lacked in that department also :S There was quite a lot of potential in the way spells were cast in this show as its more of a science based magic; unfortunately however, this potential also lead to the shows greatest problem....over-logue (overly lengthy or too much dialogue). You often find yourself sitting for half an episode listening to a character explain the overly-complicated science behind the activation of a spell. I feel this series was given a 26 episode run-time, and did nothing with it. There was no real significant conclusion or character growth...just pretty colours and an over-powered, under explained main character. So, to put it briefly: What do you get when you splice a rather shallow plot, magic, a brother sister fetish, a supernatural high school premises with overly lengthy explanation?
