Announcing: A Boy in Ballet “A Boy in Ballet, a Residency” will bring guest artist Curtis Thomas to Shelburne Falls for five days, May 19-23, 2014. During the residency he will be featured in: • Two open rehearsals • A lecture demonstration on the role of the “boy” in ballet • Two solo variations from the classical repertoire and a duet, performed as part of Ballet Renversé’s Spring 2014 recital. • This performance will be the culminating event of the residency. The solos, from the lively 19th century ballet NAPOLI, will be taught to Curtis Thomas by Richard Allan Ploch, widely experienced dance director, choreographer, and dance notation reconstructor. Mr. Ploch will travel to Shelburne Falls from Tampa, FL to work with the young artist during the residency. Curtis Thomas is a beautifully trained and exciting dancer, an African American from New Orleans, where his teacher was Ballet Renversé’s artistic director Karen Shulda. He is now on full scholarship at the Boston Conservatory. In May he will graduate and begin his professional career.
