Another great TED talk here. Can really relate to the idea that Music is a Language ....especially as relates to learning the djembe .... We start with a tone and a bass and over time develop a slap and other subtle variations thereof .... these are the basic words in our vocab. Then we start to put the words together into sentences and later paragraphs and finally we tell stories with our djembes ..... So next time youre talking with your djembe remember its cool to make mistakes ( just like we do with our words when we are growing up) .... its take years to be proficient in a new language and you should be patient with yourselves :) As teachers we need to allow students to be free to express themselves without too many restrictions and barriers ...let everyone find their own voice, their own style ...the challenge is doing it in within the construct of the music respectfully, so everyone enjoys the benefits of self expression and the music as a whole. https://youtube/watch?v=3yRMbH36HRE
