Another great review of our latest release in this months Living Blues Magazine: Alabama singer-songwriter and guitarist Debbie Bond and her band traveled to Tennessee in 2013 for an appearance on the Radio Free Nashville show Mando Blues. The live musical performances from that session form her new release That Thing Called Love, and the album finds her and the TruDats in unfettered form. Located outside Nashville, Rob McCains Omega Lab Studio, is situated in an Army surplus tent, and the recording has a comfortable, off-the-cuff feel befitting its outdoor setting. Bond wraps her purring vocals around the flirtatious, You’re the Kind Of Trouble and I like it like That, she brings the band halfway through the latter to showcase Rick Ashersons chugging harmonica solo. Steady Rolling Man has a loose Dixieland swing, accompanied by buoyant piano and saxophone playing. Feed My Soul, Still missing you, and Falling are all imbued with tender longing while the title track is underscored by an unexpected moodiness. Two versions of the restless, Latin tinged Tarragona Blues are featured; the extended mix, which concludes the album, lengthens the song by more than a minute. An atmospheric listening experience from start to finish. Debbie Bond’s That thing called Love captures her fresh, breezy southern blues-rock at it’s best.
