Another little film Days and Nights of K.C. Paul presents ‘an assemblage of everyday footages’ about a strange man whose presence is almost ubiquitous in the city of Kolkata for the last 40 years, not as a man who is highly visible but whose writings are inscribed in many walls of the northern part of the city declaring that it is the sun which revolves round the earth, inverting the Copernican turn, and that he is ready to explain his vision. Often one can see the person, selling cheaply printed booklets bearing his discourse, shrugging off the smiles and smirks with the confidence of the most misunderstood seer. Here is a man who is perfectly sane clinging to his ‘insane’ realization, utterly selfless in his quixotic mission to undo a paradigmatic error of modern science, a presence whose belief and faith underlines the melancholic absence of certitude in our uncertainly virtual everydays. The film – made in a way which refuses closure, resolution and judgment – records the words, the ramblings, the face, the frenetic activities and the surroundings of a man, whose obstinate insistence of a personal faith is like a sadly funny and telling symptom of a troubled modernity in a chaotic metropolis. vimeo/75080204
