Another project thats taken me away from playset-creating is a Christmas present for my family. Ive had our collection of 1980s Super 8 film home movies digitized professionally. Ive seen numerous nuggets (the wings of my original X-Wing; the Falcon on vacation with me at the beach; even my own directorial debut, telling the story of Episode IV with Micro-Collection toys). But, the most fascinating moment Ive found is from Christmas, 1980. I actually have the moment I received my first Star Wars figure captured on film! It was Princess Leia, and as the film reveals, it was on an Empire card. Whats even more interesting is how I interact with this figure. My mother picks it up and we look at it together. As my mother turns her attention to my little brother, I flip the card over and start looking at that all-important lineup of all Kenner figures. As you see in the film, I look carefully at the the numerous other figures and then point them out to my mother - undoubtedly showing her that I simply must collect them all. I suppose this is likely the moment that started my Star Wars toy fascination/obsession thats lasted ever since. Heres the chunk of film.
