Another tragedy. We need action immediately on the downhill run - TopicsExpress

Another tragedy. We need action immediately on the downhill run into Mona Vale Road with local input. The fact is that the section from Ingleside right down into Mona Vale needs a divided carriageway and traffic lights at Samuel Street, Emma Street and Oliver Way. Road deaths can be avoided with the right planning. Northern Beaches have been taken for granted for far too long. I will make it an issue at the next state elections if our local politicians don’t come on board. Promises of action in 20 years is not on. A five year to finalisation action plan is essential starting now. I met one of the heroes of the accident this morning. I did not ask his name but he was driving ahead of the accident and saw it in his rear vision mirror. I gathered that he lives nearby. He told me that he and another fellow who came over the fence from a house on MV Road rescued a lady from a car. He said that they could not save the husband because of the fire. The picture painted by him is horrific. I also saw the photos of a guy who escaped from his car and wanted photos of his burns. He also said that the first service on the scene was a local RFS truck and that they had done a great job. These people are recognised by the community for their heroism. It is fortunate that the fuel was compartmentalised it was not all burnt and has since been pumped from the truck. Had the truck exploded the tragedy could have involved Blackmore’s, Hungry Jacks and local houses and people. This technology has worked. A promise of money now to provide a truck escape route like a gravel pit beside the cemetery is needed now. Also a realignment of the Road to the South of the cemetery towards Kennards storage is needed. This should involve separation of the traffic with a median strip. A deep gravel pit could be slow trucks and may look ugly but is necessary. The roundabout has to go as it is not truck friendly. If it had not been there the truck may have slowed on the run up the hill. Try driving through there at reasonable speed. It is a traffic hazard. MONA VALE ROAD ACTION NOW.
