Apparently, I have friends on Facebook who do not know what I do for a living. I wear many hats from commercial artist, motion picture sound editor, actor and several other things I do in my quest for world domination. The main job I have is as an Image Voice or Promo Voice. Eons ago, before we were born and dinosaurs ruled the earth, it was called Chief Announcer. Even before then it was called mime because a microphone had not been invented yet. It is an area of the Voice Over Industry that does promotional announcements and station IDs for Radio and Television. There are some places where the front desk secretary does them but, honestly, she talks like she types. There are nine thousand plus commercial radio stations in the U.S. so there are opportunities. Until they perfect a Voice Over Machine that sounds better than Stephen Hawking. Then, were toast. That said, it is a different kind of skill than being an air personality or even a decent commercial announcer. Actually, were not decent. If you saw what we dont wear in our home studios. But, seriously it gets hot in there. In Promo Voice work there are nuances of energy, emotion and unique ways to convey information and make it memorable. I know some people with incredible voices who do voice overs and they still cant do this kind of work. Train arriving... track number 29. But seriously, acting ability is a must and imagination is a necessity. Its not as easy as it looks even though real pros make it look easy. I work in most formats, Country, Classic Hits (Oldies), Sports, AC and, of course, NewsTalk. Im putting together demos for each of those formats in the quest of, what else, more work. Its my only way to world domination.
