Apparently J. Burton, E. Gilmore, R. Bruton and F.Fitzgerald have - TopicsExpress

Apparently J. Burton, E. Gilmore, R. Bruton and F.Fitzgerald have (unsurprisingly) totally condemned the resistance of water meter installations in Cork and Dublin (which are also spreading to different parts of the country)... They think they speak for the people - Well, after spending a couple of days out in Raheny, we stopped the meters and that was something we intend to continue.. But they think they speak for us or in some way understand - after chatting to a few different people, I have a different story to tell - this is whats really happening... Firstly, a local resident spoke to us - a person who is very much against the installation of water meters and for paying (again) for water - full stop... This person was an employee of Bord Gais and has retired in the last couple of years - while he worked with Bord Gais, one of his main duties was laying pipes and repairs, etc - over the years he told us, he constantly came across leaking water pipes - these pipes were so decrepit, that laying gas pipes near them was almost impossible - the leaks were more or less everywhere and the system was rotten... I spoke to one of the lads with Uisce Eireann and told him I heard of the pipes being in serious disrepair, he confirmed it and said the infrastructure was a complete mess... He has no idea what the government were up to, laying meters to a decayed infrastructure... Right, I also chatted to a few other locals today - this one had me in tears... A man in his 80s chatted to us for a while - he was very much in distress about the whole thing, he had worked all his life, paid off his home and was now on a pension that was being cut to the bare minimum - he said he didnt know how much more he could take, he said Im 85 years old, they are trying to tax me for living now (he also meant the property tax) - Im probably better off dead and the saddest thing is - he meant it so sincerely... The man should be enjoying his remaining years - he has worked his whole life, to own what is his - he now has to pay to live in a property he has paid for his whole working life, to have a pension that is being put to the hilt and now water - and as he says, that is far from the last of it - there is much more to come if we dont stop it now!!! So many people of all ages I spoke to today, they even chatted with me on the Luas home - and believe me - what they think should happen to our government and their predecessors - cannot be typed here!!! PS Its NOT!!!!! to do with conservation - its ALL about the money!!!!
