Are some of us overstating or understating the role, if any at all, the so called 7-SPLM leaders or former detainees can play in achieving an enduring PEACE in South Sudan? And must we also ask ourselves (by cross checking our inner voices) why PEACE has always been an elusive prize among various communities/nationalities in the former Upper Nile Province (now Unity, Upper Nile, and Jonglei states) for many decades? For me, a meaningful quest for a well-meaning PEACE should carefully examine and take into account the reason(s) why Upper Nile has, in most cases, served as a destabilizing factor in forging a national identity and unity as a foundation upon which South Sudan would stand? So, unless this question is properly and satisfactorily addressed, any initiative (today or in the future) for achieving PEACE will always end up as a sham like all those we have had in the past. For how long should we continue to live in denial without confronting our ills?
