Are you ready, sky-watchers? Prepare to be starstruck tonight as the jumbo asteroid 2004 BL86 passes within 745,000 miles of Earth - about three times the distance of the moon! The brightness and size of the space rock means that backyard astronomers should be able to see it for themselves (with the assistance of binoculars or small telescopes). Weather permitting (the Bradenton area forecast includes partly cloudy skies this evening), between 10 pm and midnight, you should be able to observe the asteroid travel through the constellations Hydra and Cancer in the south-southeastern evening sky and glide just to the right of a bright celestial guidepost, the planet Jupiter.
